Redfish and Trout Active in Shallow Flats
Rockport Beach - Aransas, TX
Wade fishing around Rockport has been productive this week, especially along the shallow flats and grassy shorelines. Early mornings are your best bet, with redfish cruising the edges of the marsh as the sun comes up. Sight casting has been successful in clearer water, and small topwaters or gold spoons have been the go-to for drawing aggressive strikes.
Speckled trout are holding in slightly deeper pockets, especially near drop-offs and along shell beds. Soft plastics rigged on light jig heads have worked well, particularly in natural or chartreuse colors.
Wind has been moderate, with improving water clarity in protected coves and back lakes. Tides have been favorable, with a light incoming push around mid-morning—perfect timing for wading anglers to intercept feeding fish.
Expect continued action through the week with redfish, trout, and occasional black drum showing up in accessible wade zones. Don't forget to pack your polarized sunglasses—spotting tails and bait movement has made all the difference.
