Hey there, fellow anglers! If you're itching for a top-notch wade fishing experience in the heart of Texas coastal action, you've just stumbled upon a real gem. Captain Darren Pham's got a killer 8-hour charter lined up in Rockport that'll have you knee-deep in some of the best redfish and speckled trout action around. This ain't your average fishing trip – it's tailored for those of you who know your way around a rod and reel and are looking to step up your game in the shallows.
Picture this: You're out on the flats as the sun's coming up, feeling that soft mud between your toes, and there's fish moving all around you. That's what you're in for with this wade fishing charter. Captain Darren's got the inside scoop on where the big ones are hiding, and he's ready to put you on 'em. We're talking about a full day – 8 hours of non-stop fishing action. And the best part? It's just you and maybe a buddy, getting one-on-one guidance from a pro who knows these waters like the back of his hand. Whether you're looking to perfect your sight-casting or just want to fill the cooler, this trip's got you covered.
Now, let's talk technique. Wade fishing is an art, folks. You'll be sneaking through skinny water, reading the signs, and making pinpoint casts to spook-wary fish. Captain Darren's got all the gear you'll need – from top-of-the-line rods to the perfect lures for the conditions. He'll show you how to work a topwater for explosive strikes or finesse a soft plastic through grass beds where the big trout hide. And when it comes to redfish, get ready to sight-cast to tailing bulls in water so shallow you can see their backs out of the water. It's heart-pounding stuff, and there's nothing quite like it.

Let's break down what you're after on this trip. First up, redfish – the bulldogs of the flats. These copper-colored beauties can range from slot-sized rats to over-slot bruisers that'll test your drag. They love to cruise the shallows, often with their tails waving in the air like flags. When they're tailing, it's like Christmas morning for anglers. The best time to target them is during the fall when they school up, but you can find them year-round in Rockport.
Then there's the speckled trout – the ghosts of the grass flats. These spotted speedsters are known for their soft mouths and acrobatic fights. They're ambush predators, so working a lure over grass beds or along drop-offs can trigger some explosive strikes. Spring and fall are prime times for big sows, but summer can offer some incredible topwater action at dawn and dusk. Nothing beats the sound of a trout crushing a walk-the-dog lure on a calm morning.
Don't forget about the bonus species – flounder. While not the primary target, these flatfish are a welcome addition to any trip. They're masters of camouflage, lying in wait on sandy bottoms near structure. Late fall is flounder run time, when big ones move to the Gulf to spawn. Catching one of these doormat-sized fish is like winning the flatfish lottery.
Alright, folks, here's the deal – if you're serious about upping your inshore game, this is the trip for you. Captain Darren's got the knowledge, the spots, and the passion to make sure you have a day on the water you won't forget. At $600 for up to two anglers, it's a steal for a full day of guided fishing. And remember, it's not just about the fish – it's about honing your skills, learning new techniques, and experiencing some of the best shallow water fishing Texas has to offer. So what are you waiting for? Give Captain Darren a shout, put down that deposit, and get ready for a wade fishing adventure that'll have you coming back for more. The redfish are calling, and the speckled trout are waiting – it's time to answer that call and book your spot on the flats!

Redfish, or Red Drum, are the crown jewels of our flats here in Rockport. These copper-colored beauties, with their distinctive tail spot, typically run 20 to 30 inches in the shallows, but can grow much larger offshore. You'll find them tailing in water as shallow as 1 to 4 feet, often with their backs out of the water. They love hanging around oyster reefs, grass flats, and marsh edges. Fall is prime time when they school up for their spawning run. Anglers go crazy for redfish because of their powerful fights and their willingness to hit topwater lures – there's nothing like seeing a big red crash a surface plug. They're also excellent eating, with a sweet, mild flavor. When you're out there, keep an eye out for their copper backs or tailing activity in shallow water. My favorite trick? Use a gold spoon and retrieve it just fast enough to make it flash – reds can't resist it.

Sea Trout, or Speckled Trout, are a favorite here in Rockport. These silvery, spotted beauties usually run 14 to 24 inches, but I've seen some push 5 pounds or more. You'll find them in our grass flats and shallow waters, especially at night. They love to hang around structure, so look for them near oyster reefs or along drop-offs. Spring and fall are your best bets for big catches. Anglers can't get enough of their fight – they're known to make some thrilling topwater strikes. Plus, they're excellent table fare with a mild, flaky meat. If you're after trout, try working a soft plastic shrimp imitation or a topwater plug along the edges of grass beds. Here's a local tip: on calm mornings, look for them "slicking" – creating small, oily patches on the surface where they've been feeding. That's your cue to cast!

Summer Flounder, or fluke, are masters of camouflage in our shallow waters. These flatfish typically run 15-20 inches but can reach a whopping 26 pounds. You'll find them lurking on sandy or muddy bottoms, often near structure. They're ambush predators, so they'll wait for prey to come close before striking. Fall is prime time for flounder fishing, especially September through November. Anglers love targeting them for their delicious white meat and the challenge of hooking these sneaky bottom-dwellers. When you're out there, try drifting with live bait like mullet or croaker. My go-to trick? Use a circle hook and work your bait slowly along the bottom – flounder aren't known for chasing down fast-moving lures. Remember, they've got both eyes on one side, so they attack sideways. Once you feel that distinctive thump, give 'em a second before setting the hook.
